RI shooters eye gold on the first day

Palembang (IO): The Indonesian shooting contingent to the 26th SEA Games team plans to walk away with one of three gold medals on offer on the first day of the shooting competition at Jakabaring Sports Complex in Palembang on Saturday.
The three gold medals are from the men’s 10-meter air rifle, women’s 50-meter three position and the men’s standard pistol.
Indonesia will be represented by Adri Maulana and Dwi Firmansyah in the men’s air rifle, Maharani Adri in the women’s three position and Sonny Prabowo and Anang Julianto in the men’s standard pistol.
“We are only targeting one gold medal through Anang,” Indonesia’s shooting head coach Glenn Cliff said in Palembang yesterday.
Glenn said the team would rely on Anang because he scored 573 points in every practice session, higher than the tally chalked up by the gold medalist at last year’s Games.
“In theory, Anang can do it. But it all depends how ready and calm he is later in the competition,” Glenn said.
At the 2009 SEA Games in Laos, Indonesia won 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in shooting. In Palembang, Elly CH and friends are targeting only two gold medals out of 14 on offer.
Indonesian shooting team manager Robby Atmadja said the team had participated in tournaments in the run up to the Games, including in Laos in September where the team picked up three silver and three bronze medals and in Vietnam, where they walked away with four gold medals.
And as predicted, Anang won the gold medal for Indonesia in the competition.
